First is your ready to go bag. It can be a backpack or a small suitcase on rollers---make it easy to manipulate and go quickly.
Make a list of items you can't be without---for many of us it's our prescription medicine. Keep prescription meds in a container that you can grab and go. Have at least 3 days worth if you can't take all of them.

Personal daily toiletries should be in a travel case ready to toss into your to go bag. Use the samples you get at hotels or in the 'sample' section of your drugstore.
Extra clothes especially underwear and a jacket sweater. I keep a sweater in my car---so many places have air conditioning much to chilly for me.
Have photo copies of all your important papers like birth certificates, driver's license, medicare cards, and credit cards.
Bottled water is a must and if you can, have water purification tablets in your bag.
Snacks, snacks, snacks. I like the packages of peanut butter and also cheese and cracker snack packs.
Something you should always have in your evacuate emergency bag is cash--dollar bills and a roll of quarters for vending machines.
